Divine humor! I smile when I read Acts 5. The High Priest and Sadducees laid hands on the apostles for preaching that Jesus had risen from the dead. They threw them into the public jail for the night. In the morning the nation’s rulers brought the whole ruling body together to deal with these Jesus preachers. They sat in pompous importance waiting for the guards to drag the cowed apostles into cou...rt. But they came back without them. The prisoners had vanished under their noses. Consternation! A power hand from God had unlocked their prison. Furious and frustrated the authorities could only put on a show of violence and threats. The Bible’s final touch of humor is that “The apostles never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ”. Christians never have stopped, and never will stop.
